Greystone Center Manager Earns Titleist Institute Certification

Feb 15 |

Christene Tran was a student-athlete during her days at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Now a physical therapist in Birmingham with Drayer Physical Therapy Institute, Tran continues to mix education and athletics.

She recently earned certification from the Titleist Performance Institute, which describes itself as the world’s leading educational organization and research facility dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.

Tran is center manager for Drayer’s Greystone center at 2823 Greystone Commercial Blvd., Birmingham. The center can be reached at 205-453-9400.

A soccer player at UAB, Tran is a recreational golfer and has treated numerous golfers in her physical therapy career.

“Every golfer wants to be a better golfer,” she said. “By becoming TPI certified, I can help golfers recognize weaker aspects of their bodies that influence the biomechanics of their swings. Not only will this improve their games, but they will be better conditioned and more aware of how their bodies work.”

The 16-point TPI screen, which can be completed at the Greystone center in approximately one hour, includes posture, rotation, balance, range of motion, strength. Improving any deficits in areas such as these can reduce the risk for injury and enhance a golfer’s game. Information from the screen can be provided to a fitness trainer or golf professional at the golfer’s request.

Tran will be on hand on Feb. 15 at the Birmingham Golf & Travel Expo. Drayer will have a booth at the expo, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University.

Visitors to the Drayer booth can register to win one of two golf baskets that will include a towel, umbrella and free TPI screen.
